This Guided Imagery exercise can prepare someone for a closed MRI by reducing feelings of anxiety and claustrophobia. In turn, many who have used this GI exercise have been able to undergo the procedure without an anti anxiety medication. This also reduces the need to have someone drive you to the procedure. Many MRI centers will allow you to play this while undergoing the MRI. It can help pass the time quickly and can provide a ‘therapeutic window’ in which to practice deep relaxation and healing.
Relaxation and Guided Imagery are methods that teach people how to become deeply relaxed while conscious. When sensory images are then added to the experience, the body treats these images as if they are happening. Relaxation and Guided Imagery is an empowering process of letting go of stress and learning to allow yourself to find responses rather than force yourself or command yourself to cope or heal.
